Department of Applied Science and Technology

ABOUT US

Mission :Provide the knowledge and prosperity through high quality education to next generation of visionaries by illuminating them to perform Engineering & Technologies and to have leadership management role in industry and research institutions.

Vision:The Department of Applied Science and Technology shall perpetrate

  • To be a centre of educational excellence in petroleum Engineering & Safety programs by the global industries and other Educational institutions.
  • To train the students with expertise that would improve the skills and face the challenges in industry.
  • To provide the students with multi-disciplinary approach to come up with practical knowledge that would meet global demands.
  • To empower the students for advanced study and research in the field of upstream and downstream sectors in Petroleum Industries, Occupational Health and Environmental Management.

With the main objective of carrying out research by the fusion of Science and Technology the Department of Applied Science and Technology (DAST) was started in October 2011 with an Undergraduate programme, Petroleum Engineering and Technology and a Post graduate programme, Industrial Safety and Hazards Management in the academic year 2013- 2014.

The Petroleum Engineering and Technology programme focuses on Petroleum Geology, Reservoir, Drilling and Well completion, Production, Petroleum Engineering and Science, Petroleum Safety Fundamentals, Process control, Reaction Engineering, Technical Communications which helps to train engineering technologists in all areas of the petroleum industry and helps them meet the demand for highly skilled people in the field and office positions

In the past few decades, rate of industrialization in the country has gathered momentum. Apart from new investments for putting up factories, modernization and renovation of existing manufacturing facilities has also taken place to improve quality and productivity. Industrial safety and Hazards Management program deals with the study of managing hazardous chemicals and their handling and salient features of industrial safety measures.

As for the research, the department provides a wide range of field includes Petroleum Engineering, Enhanced oil recovery, Bio-fuels, Bio-diesel, Fuel cell, Industrial Safety, Ergonomics, Energy, Nanotechnology, Thermal energy storage, Catalysis, Sensors, Environmental Engineering to give hands with society for green environment. . Emphasis is given to students to carry out active and rich research with research publications in well-known journals in major and allied engineering and science.

The Department with regular interval, the curricula and syllabi for the undergraduate and postgraduate courses have been periodically updated in line with modern day developments taking into account the demands of industry and R&D institutions.

The DAST offers students the option of crossing disciplinary lines in developing knowledge in various fields of study. Major fields of emphasis include Applied Science and Technology (DAST) features the application of physical and mathematical techniques to fundamental investigations of emerging areas within the physical and life sciences.

The Department has fully equipped laboratories in the core areas such as Heat and Mass Transfer, Fluid and Solid Mechanics, Geology and Geophysics, Petroleum Testing to impart practical knowledge to the students.

We extend the talents of our students in Technical and Non-Technical events by allowing them to conduct various National and International conferences and Workshops such as

  • PETROVISION
  • SALVATIO
  • Industrial act and safety practices in industries
  • Faculty Development Training Program on Process calculation
  • Three days' National level conference on Safety Environment and Industrial Applied Science and Technology
  • Faculty Development Training Program on Environmental Science and Engineering
  • Certificate course on Safety in Chemical Industries

Industrial collaborations for ensuring the placement of the students in established process and product industries through campus and off-campus recruitments is given a top priority. Active interaction with the industry has been maintained and the department has been collaborating with several industries through several consultancy services towards technology development activities using the sophisticated testing facilities available in the department.
