About Us


Centre for Environmental Studies (CES):
The Centre for Environmental Studies (CES) was established as a Division of Public Health Engineering, College of Engineering Guindy during 1955 with assistance from World Health Organization. It was later developed as an autonomous centre ‘CES’ in 1982. The centre has been making significant contributions in the field of environment with keen focus on Environmental Education, Research and Extension activities for the past 66 years.

Centre for Environmental Studies will be a Centre of Excellence by

  1. Offering well-rounded education to shape professionals for Environmental Protection having technical knowledge, skills and ethical values in consonance with Sustainable Development Goals.
  2. Keeping pace with rapidly changing technologies and global standards through excellence in need based Research, Consultancy Services and Extension Programmes.

CES Mission

Centre for Environmental Studies shall contribute towards Sustainable Development with focus on Prevention and Control of Pollution, Preservation of Natural Resources, Promotion of Environmental Technologies and Sustainable Engineering practices by

  1. Educating the professionals for environmental protection and inculcating technical knowledge, skills and foundations for life-long learning.
  2. Introducing cutting edge technologies and teaching learning tools in academic and research programmes by keeping pace with global standards.
  3. Strengthening infrastructure and ensuring supportive systems to meet the needs of students, faculty and staffs.
  4. Conducting interdisciplinary research to create new knowledge and continued renewal of the professional competence.
  5. Providing need based research, consultancy and extension services.
  6. Enhancing collaborative partnership with academia, industry and Government organization.
