Creativity is intelligence having fun. This core belief and the desire to uplift education beyond being about just books have driven the Department of Media Sciences ever since its inception in January 2002. Anna University pioneered the start of the Electronic Media programme in India, bringing to fruition an idea of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Originally, a part of the UGC's Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMMRC), today the Department has branched off into a single successful entity offering four different programmes.
At the Department of Media Sciences, technology and creativity go hand in hand and has for over 18 years been a blooming ground of media talent. The core curriculum skillfully balances theory with hands on practice, providing budding media professionals with an opportunity to gain a sound technical base and industry level knowledge. Media equipped classrooms and laboratories also create an ideal learning atmosphere where ideas and knowledge are freely discussed and debated upon.
On completion of the programmes, students have gone on to work in industries like Print and Electronic Journalism, Films, Photography, Editing, Content Writing, Animation, e-Learning, Social Media, Advertising, Development Communication with some even entering into Academic Research and Teaching.
